On Friday, Bread for the City -- a nonprofit which provides residents of D.C. with comprehensive services like food, clothing, medical care, and legal services -- opened up a rooftop garden on top of its new 1525 7th Street NW headquarters.

A couple of months ago, I was alerted to this article in the Washington Post about, essentially, a Match.com for gardeners and gardens. SharingBackyards.com connects city-folk living in apartments or small spaces with those who have yard space and are willing to share. The Post has a follow-up today about one particular success from the site, and that space in the photo? Yes, indeed, that is this writer's backyard.
First Lady Visits Garden In Mount Pleasant
Before jet-setting to New York today for another Saturday night date with her husband, First Lady Michelle Obama spent yesterday at Bancroft Elementary School in Mount Pleasant, where students are tending a garden -- similar to the one on the South Lawn of the White House which supplies veggies to both the White House and Miriam's Kitchen.
