Barack may like Ray's Hell Burger, but Michelle is all about the Good Stuff. Spike Mendelsohn's Good Stuff Eatery, that is. Blogger DC365 spotted the first lady earlier today stopping in the Capitol Hill burger spot to pick up some lunch.

She whizzed past us, waving and smiling, in a kicky little ponytail and grey capri pants, as the crowd shouted "We love you!"

The Twitterverse lit up with several reports of the FLOTUS sighting, too. We like to think the Obamas can now compare notes and discuss which burger is better.

Not that it'll be that hard. Jumbo Slice-bashing aside, former Top Chef contestant Spike Mendelsohn is planning to branch out from his signature Good Stuff Eatery's burgers into another facet of the upscale fast food trend: pizza. He's been eating his way through New York's pizza in order to "research" the new establishment, which will open in the next three to four months, according to a journal he kept last week for New York Magazine.

Former Top Chef contestant Spike Mendelsohn packed the Sixth & I Historic Synagogue on Sunday, the first night of Hanukkah, for a lesson in latkes. At Latke Mania, the reality TV personality turned Good Stuff Eatery burger slinger earned laughs lighting a menorah with a butane torch, struggling through candle lighting prayers he said he stayed up all night learning, and bantering with his sous chef for the evening—his mom.

The media has long been hovering around former Top Chef contestant Spike Mendelsohn and his D.C. burger joint, Good Stuff Eatery. The latest is this WTOP report about health violations at the restaurant. According to the story, the restaurant was cited for storing beef in the alley behind the restaurant; photos of buns by the dumpster have apparently surfaces. Mendelsohn explained that they were in the alley for only a few minutes after a delivery.

Today Eater reported on a rumor about a possible lawsuit brought against Spike Mendelsohn-owned Good Stuff Eatery in Capitol Hill by D.C. area-based burger chain Five Guys, as discussed on the blog Amuse-Biatch. Here's what they wrote:

Spike’s dad stands at the door and loves to make conversation... He likes to talk to everyone and told me and my friends that the restaurant is being sued by DC chain Five Guys since the burger “Spike’s Five Napkin Burger” sounds too much like something they have. Spike’s dad didn’t go into details, but he said that he was delighted to be sued and hoped it would bring in publicity.

We heard from Spike's sister, Micheline Mendelsohn, who confirmed that there is no such lawsuit and that the story is not true. She said she has fielded about 10 phone calls on the matter. It's unclear how such a rumor could even be believed anyway, since not only is it almost impossible to copyright a recipe, but also the Five Napkin Burger is served with cheese, applewood bacon, and a fried egg on brioche -- not exactly like anything Five Guys serves. Hopefully it won't take more than five napkins to clear this one up.

It has been a little over a week since Good Stuff Eatery opened and the hoopla surrounding Capitol Hill's newest burger joint has been monumental. Last night, owners Spike Mendelsohn and his family celebrated the official opening with a red carpet ribbon cutting and - a treat for D.C.'s reality TV fans - a mini-reunion of his fellow Top Chef contestants.
