Spring is when we get busy here in the Ist-A-Verse. Very busy. But, after staying bundled-up indoors all winter, it's nice for us to be out, about, and collecting things to write about for you. Here's a glimpse at what's been keeping your favorite citybloggers busily away from home and out of bed. For LAist, strong winds attacked LA on the same day the Feds raided the Crips. Not to fear, though: the Japanese version......

It’s nice to have a real bar in the midst of the chi-chi scene that Whole Foods spawned on 14th and P Street. That’s what many folks said when they walked into a decidedly cleaner, more modern and less packed version of Stoney’s on a recent weeknight. But biting into our first super grilled cheese (lightly grilled white bread, gooey American cheese, tomato, chopped raw onion, crispy bacon) after a 10-month hiatus reminded us, yes,......

As you might know from a previous post, we’re a fan of brunch, and, in particular, Majestic Café’s renditions of Southern and Creole. But Majestic doesn’t offer eggs Benedict, which is a standard in most brunch-oriented places. Even the worst of the worst access-road diners offer the stuff. So, sadly, we have to go elsewhere for our Benedict fix. This past weekend, we were moved by several good reviews to try out Tallula -- the......

We've all seen the signs around the District -- by city law, pedestrians in crosswalks without crossing signals have the right of way. But will we ever get caught zooming through intersections while pedestrians try to cross? According to the Post, we just might. Provoked by the 10 pedestrian deaths so far this year, police have started going undercover to enforce the District's pedestrian laws, often to the chagrin of city drivers oblivious to......

DCist is screwed in the event of an oil crisis. Not that we're not all screwed in the event of an oil crisis, just D.C. is more screwed. Don't sell your car yet, District resident, a cabbie can kick you to the curb if he doesn't like your address. Not even Metro can save you now. Londonist experiences the London of the future through the wonders of 3D modeling, but while the 3D guys are......

News today has it that the U.S. Capitol Police seemed to have forgotten about the First Amendment on Tuesday night, when they arrested anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan and Beverly Young, the wife of a Republican representative, at the State of the Union address for wearing "expressive t-shirts." Ironically, Young's shirt was pro-military: "Support the Troops -- Defending Our Freedom." Capitol Police Terrance Gainer issued an apology and dropped the charges against the two. District Claims......

By new DCist Food and Drink Contributor April Fulton Mmmm, Stoney Burgers. The mere mention of these large, luscious, beef patties served on a soft roll with American cheese, lettuce, tomato, mayo and extra pickles -- if you ask nicely -- is enough to make Homer Simpson drool. Stoney’s burgers, cheap beer, “super grilled cheese” and its unabashedly ugly dark-wood-panel décor have fueled many a lunch or long evening for government workers, seniors, janitors, hipsters,......

MONDAY: >> We've been hearing an awful lot about certain journalists who've spent superfluous time in jail for ideals they supposedly believe in -- but, before you make any contributions to that gravy train, why not hear from Marie-Helene Carleton, who'll be in town discussing the travails of her filmmaker partner Micah Garen, who was taken hostage in Iraq in 2003. Even if you're an avid news junkie, there's still a lot you don't know......

With temperatures approaching the 90’s and heat indexes breaking the century mark, we can be sure that summer is now upon us. While DCist has yet to find the perfect tomato that makes cooking in this season so delightful, we have still turned our thoughts to foods more indicative of hot and lazy days. The crab cake sandwich has been a staple for Marylanders, who will surely shun Roy Rogers take on the seafood classic.......

While a small wine bar and restaurant on the beach in South Carolina may have very little to do with Washington D.C., it was this DCist’s summer vacation destination. A unique behind the scenes experience and extensive conversation with the head chef of 11 Center Street Wine and Gourmet (full disclosure: owned by this DCist's mother) proved the source of much inspiration. This tapas restaurant on Folly Beach has been kicking out upscale small plates......
