Javaris Crittenton Pleads Guilty, Gets One Year Probabtion

Wizards guard Javaris Crittenton was charged with two misdemeanor counts of unlawful gun possession earlier today, but has already entered a guilty plea on one of the charges, as part of a deal with prosecutors, the Post's Keith Alexander and Mike Wise report from D.C. Superior Court.

Senior Judge Bruce Beaudin on Monday agreed with the prosecutor's suggestion and sentenced Crittenton to one year of unsupervised probation and $1,250 in fines. Crittenton also agreed to begin a mentoring program to District children and work with the NBA on relief for Haiti earthquake victims.
The sentence comes after suspended Wizards player Gilbert Arenas pleaded guilty to felony gun possession last week, charges that stemmed from the very same locker room incident that involved the two players brandishing weapons inside the Verizon Center. Arenas is still awaiting sentencing. more ›

Arenas: Gun Incident Was 'Misguided Effort to Play a Joke'

Below is the statement circulated today by Gilbert Arenas's attorney on the question of whether the Wizards star brought guns into the Verizon Center. According to the attorney, Arenas met with federal prosecutors and D.C. police detectives earlier today to formally answer questions about the incident. In his press statement, Agent Zero basically admits that the majority of the media accounts on this story have been true, noting that he did bring four guns to work with him, and that he did brandish them inside the locker room on Dec. 21. The only thing Gil disputes are his intentions: he thought having unloaded guns inside the District was OK, and he only meant "to play a joke on a teammate." more ›

Police Officer Brandishes Gun at Snowball Fight: Eye-Witness Report

Early on, MPD officers tolerated the chaos. Around 150 snowballers lined up on the east and west sides of 14th Street NW just north of U Street, idling politely as passing cars sludged through the intersection before rushing out to meet one another on the icy field of combat. A few activist-types carried riot shields featuring the anarchy symbol and unfurled a giant banner reading "No War but Snow War." One snowballer carried an IKEA bag full of snowballs, as good a visual metaphor for a snowball fight at that intersection as you could hope to find. Good times. more ›

Needless to say, it looks like the program — the oversight of which has been in turmoil — will be getting... more ›
