It looks like Marion Barry has temporarily blocked the relocation of DDOT's headquarters from the Reeves Building at 2000 14th Street NW to a new location near Nationals Park. The Washington Business Journal noted that the Council had until the close of business yesterday to contest the agency's move to 55 M Street SE -- which you may better recognize as the building down the road from the ballpark which also houses the Half Street exit of the Navy Yard Metro station. The new lease would cost the District about $70 million over ten years; DDOT would only be the building's second tenant. However, JDLand reports today that Councilmember Barry (D-Ward 8) filed a "disapproval notice" yesterday to delay the move. It's now likely that DDOT will need to wait until the Council reconvenes in mid-September, at the earliest, to make the move official. Who knows what Barry's angling for here -- that said, there isn't a whole lot of concern that the move won't eventually happen.

Transit on Thursday: Safety Dance Edition
This week on Transit on Thursday, good news from DDOT for people who don't like getting hit by cars, and Metro plans on fixin' some things that really need fixin'. Score One For Pedestrians: We will soon get to say farewell to annoying sidewalk closures caused by those greedy development projects. No more braving the fury of cars as we find a way around. And no more crossing to the other side. Builders will...
Heat Makes DMV Even More of a Hassle
Just a little public service announcement for our readers who drive. If you by any chance need to initiate or renew your vehicle registration this month and require an inspection, you'll need to get to the SW Inspection Station earlier than normal. The Half Street SW station will be observing code red heat advisory service hours beginning today and at least through Wednesday, which means they'll be opening at 5 a.m. and closing at 1...
DIY Stadium Design
Love or hate the idea of a new ballpark in Southeast, the design process is moving full steam ahead. Today's Post featured stadium architect Joseph Spear of HOK Sport, outlining his vision and sketches for the stadium. Spear's plan calls for a V-shaped facade, with one face constructed of stone and glass, and the other a steel and glass facade. The ballpark incorporates a view of the Anacostia, pays homage to D.C.'s monumental core, and...
Morning Roundup: Ducklings Watch Edition
Duck Watch Begins at Treasury: Remember the expectant duck nesting outside the Treasury Department that captured the heart of all America? Well, those eggs may be hatching this week, the AP, via WJLA, reports. We can already hear the ooohs and ahhhs coming from the area, but unfortunately, the view from the nearest DDOT camera, seen here at 15th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, is turned away from the duck's security perimeter. If the world can...

I read DCist every day at work...it's the best. Do you guys have any suggestions for what to do in the district for New Years? Or do you know some of the options out there? Just wondering. First DCist wants to...
