It looks like Marion Barry has temporarily blocked the relocation of DDOT's headquarters from the Reeves Building at 2000 14th Street NW to a new location near Nationals Park. The Washington Business Journal noted that the Council had until the close of business yesterday to contest the agency's move to 55 M Street SE -- which you may better recognize as the building down the road from the ballpark which also houses the Half Street exit of the Navy Yard Metro station. The new lease would cost the District about $70 million over ten years; DDOT would only be the building's second tenant. However, JDLand reports today that Councilmember Barry (D-Ward 8) filed a "disapproval notice" yesterday to delay the move. It's now likely that DDOT will need to wait until the Council reconvenes in mid-September, at the earliest, to make the move official. Who knows what Barry's angling for here -- that said, there isn't a whole lot of concern that the move won't eventually happen. more ›
