It's only natural to want to top off a grueling afternoon or evening of sporting competition – in this case, mini-golf – with a couple of cold ones. Luckily for cocktail fans, at H Street Country Club, that post-game refreshment isn't limited to a selection of beers shoved in a cooler on the back of the golf cart. Thanks to the bar's newly expanded drinks menu, and the magic touch of mixologist turned consultant Gina Chersevani, revelers and competitors alike can sip on a Pebble Beach, a Mr. Hendrick's and a few other hand-crafted cocktails that include fresh and unique ingredients.

Due to celebrations on H Street NE and U Streets NW, there will be several roads near major intersections which will be closed to cars today. The Greater U Street Parade and Festival kicked off at 11 this morning: the parade route winds from 10th to 13th Streets, 13th Street from U to V Streets, and then on V Street from 13th to 14th Street -- the latter of which will be closed to traffic until 6 p.m., after its official renaming to "Langston Hughes Way" at noon by Ward 1 Councilman Jim Graham. H Street NE, meanwhile, will be closed to traffic between 10th and 14th Streets NE for the 2009 H Street Festival until 9 p.m.

The shop in question is in the 800 block of H Street NE, located in the same strip mall as a McDonald's.

D.C. police say they are investigating a daytime shooting in the 1200 block of H Street NE. An adult female was shot at about 12:54 p.m. at 1275 H Street NE.

Read this fascinating story from The New York Times on the D.C. Fire Department's Engine Company 10, by all accounts the busiest firehouse in the country. These Trinidad firefighters at the "House of Pain" spend most of their time not fighting fires, but rather serving as emergency medical responders.

About 80 percent of the calls handled by Engine Company 10 are medical emergencies because the firehouse serves one of the city’s poorest areas, where few residents have health insurance, doctors’ checkups are rare, and medical problems are left to fester until someone dials 911.

The District Department of Transportation is moving ahead with the installation of streetcar slabs and tracks along H Street NE, despite the fact that the streetcars themselves still have several planning hurdles to overcome before they'll be cleared to start running. But the laying of tracks will cause two intersections on H Street to be temporarily closed this week.

You've probably noticed the ongoing construction surrounding the Chinatown Archway at H and 7 Streets NW. The Archway itself has been covered up for several weeks, and the renovation work is expected to wrap up before the end of August. In order to complete the construction, DDOT plans to close H Street entirely between 6th and 7th Streets NW overnight tonight. The 600 block of H Street will be closed from midnight until to approximately 5 a.m. on Tuesday morning while crews move large equipment needed for the renovations into place. Drivers are instructed to follow posted signs, and use F Street or I Street to detour around the area.

District Department of Transportation director Gabe Klein is set to meet with the public tonight to provide an update on the epically delayed plans for a streetcar line along H Street NE. The project is the second of two stalled streetcar plans, the other along South Capitol Street in Anacostia. In advance of tonight's big meeting, which is being co-hosted by Advisory Neighborhood Commissions 5B, 6A and 6C, the Washington Business Journal's Jonathon O'Connell provides a preview.

Via the Post's Get There blog, Pepco is reporting a major power outage affecting the H Street NE corridor, along with other spots in Northeast D.C. Roughly 1,400 customers are currently affected by the outage, according to Pepco's outage map, with an estimated restoration time currently slated for 5 p.m.

Opening tonight is H Street Country Club, the much anticipated, long awaited indoor mini-golf course/Mexican eatery in Northeast. We’ve heard rumors about the DC-themed holes bordering on two years now. Chalk up their logo, which says "Est. 2008," to overzealousness. Even the hard hat tour in February 2009 showed a place still in development; there wasn’t a blade of fake grass in sight. Last night we had the chance to be among the first to test out the course, margarita in hand, at a press preview.

The D.C. Council earlier today passed an amended version of the noise bill first introduced by Tommy Wells and Mary Cheh that was born out of Ward 6 resident David Klavitter's crusade to put an end to amplified street preachers keeping him awake at his home near H Street NE. But Wells and Cheh actually voted against this bill, after it was basically gutted by an amendment introduced by Ward 5 Council member Harry Thomas Jr. that was a major concession to union groups.

As we reported last week, Georgetown residents should have been ready for some rude awakenings over the weekend -- and rude awakenings they received.

When we told you about David Klavitter's struggles against a noisy group of demonstrators on H Street NE a few weeks back, most everyone seemed to agree that while free speech is an important principle, it's not one that everyone has to exercise using a loud amplifier. But today the D.C. Council seemed to disagree.
