Morning Roundup: Don't Get Too Comfortable Edition

Good morning, Washington. Enjoy that cool temperature outside while it lasts (60° right now!), because the heat will be back before you know it (i.e. this weekend), so much so that you'll probably need to switch on the old A/C come Sunday. Mayor Fenty's nominee for Schools Chancellor, Michelle Rhee, knows a little something about sitting around in expectation of feeling the heat herself right now -- there's the questions about the secret way Fenty... more ›

Morning Roundup: Lost Data Edition

Good morning, Washington. You should check out DCMatt's photos of last night's lightning. The flashes prompted me to race home from a happy hour, hoping to escape what seemed like an inevitable deluge — but the downpour never came. Trains were stopped for 10 to 15 minutes as firefighters got the fire under control. The Orange Line is now back to running on schedule. No mention, yet, as to what caused the morning pyrotechnics. Montgomery County Police Restricted from Message Board: WJLA is reporting that Montgomery County... more ›

WTOP Goes Investigative

We've always somewhat hearted WTOP Investigative Reporter Mark Segraves. He's the guy who recently broke the story that District resources are used to cover the costs of the many motorcades that pass through the city -- $1.5 million last year alone, $10 million since 2000, and 40 D.C. police officers and 40 cruisers each time. Today he's back with more interesting investigative pieces. more ›

Area Grifter Sacked By Sapp

Area Grifter Sacked By Sapp

Howard County police have arrested an area man who made creative use of a list of NFL players phone numbers to bilk some of the games superstars out of a few thousand dollars. And while he's not crowing about it on his website (it actually doesn't appear as if he's doing much at all with his site), it appears that the scam was uncovered by Oakland defensive lineman Warren Sapp. more ›
