Kingsley Flood has been playing shows with their newer sound for many months, and finally their recordings reflect this stylistic shift, with the release of their new EP Colder Still.

Kathryn Calder @ IOTA
Best known as a late addition to indie-rock “supergroup” The New Pornographers, and before that as a member of Victoria, BC-based indie-rock outfit Immaculate Machine, Kathryn Calder has embarked on a burgeoning solo career over the past couple of years.
DCist Preview: Chaise Lounge @ IOTA
In the late '50s and early '60s, before The Beatles changed the face of music, there existed a highly stylized form of pop jazz that was quite popular amongst the hip and urbane at coffee shops and college campuses around the country. This sound came largely from recordings made at Capitol Studios in Hollywood, and is epitomized by the recordings of artists like Frank Sinatra and June Christy. Local ensemble Chaise Lounge aims to capture the essence of that genre.
The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger @ Iota
An impressively large crowd braved the wintry elements on Tuesday night and made the trip to Iota to catch the local debut of The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger. Of course, ticket sales likely were not hindered by the fact that one principal member of the band is the "Beautiful Boy" of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, while the other is a successful and strikingly beautiful fashion model. Seemingly unfazed by the burden of hype and fame that precedes them, Sean Lennon and Charlotte Kemp Muhl met -- or perhaps even exceeded -- expectations with an enjoyable performance that marked their musical partnership as one whose fledgling development seems well worth watching.

The Federal Reserve Collective Takes a Bow @ Iota
The Federal Reserve Collective, which assembled for the last time at Iota on Monday night, hasn't so much disbanded as resigned themselves to its constitutional crisis -- one that most bands would love to have. Simply put, its members are too popular for the once-monthly collab sessions that the FRC has hosted at Iota for the last couple years. "A lot of us have started drifting off in different directions," says Federal founding father Jesse Elliott of These United States over email. What he means to say is that they're all out on tour.

Concert Preview: The City Veins, Julie Ocean & Yell County
What better way to celebrate the release of your band's new album than by taking the stage at Iota? How about sharing that celebration with two other local bands who are doing the very same thing. Tonight, Arlington's great little venue is hosting the CD release parties for three very talented local bands — The City Veins, Julie Ocean and Yell County. We asked each of the bands a few questions about their albums. See what they had to say and get an idea of what you can expect tonight.
