Monday >> It's been quite a while since Czech avant-rockers Už Jsme Doma have toured the U.S. If you've never had the chance to see them live over the course of their 22-year career, tonight at the Black Cat backstage is your chance. The band has defied easy categorization with its loud, chaotic and proggy punk sound, but it matters little what you call it. It's amazing stuff, and takes on an even more intense... more ›

About Tonight

>> We're probably never gonna get a full-blown Fugazi reunion at Fort Reno, but tonight is the closest you could ask for. Tonight's show includes Ian MacKaye and Amy Farina's band The Evens along with Joe Lally. 7:15 p.m., always free. >> Bouncing Ball Theatrical Productions opens their second summer season with a benefit production of Titus, the musical, a punk rock musical adaptation of Shakespeare's play with a similar name, at the Black... more ›

Weekly Music Agenda

The early part of the week is looking a little light for shows, but after the Fourth things really get rolling through Sunday night. MONDAY >> After coming down with a case of "David Letterman throat" last week, Morrissey was forced to reschedule three shows, including his gig at Madison Square Garden in NYC. Right now it looks like NYC's loss is our gain, as we just recieved an email from the staff at Wolf... more ›

Fort Reno 2007 Schedule Announced

As we mentioned in the Morning Roundup today, there are plenty of ways to define the start of summer. For music lovers in the D.C. area however, once Fort Reno starts, you know the lazy days of fire fly catching and swimming pool splashing are officially upon us. We told you last week about the opening lineup for this summer's series on June 18, but we're happy to tell you now that the full... more ›

Three Stars: Joe Lally

Three Stars: Joe Lally

Joe Lally should need no introduction. As one half of one of the most rock-solid and inventive rhythm sections in rock and roll, he spent the better part of two decades playing the part of unshakeable anchor for Fugazi's storms of dueling guitars. His fluid, rolling bass lines have been often imitated, and, in one case, appropriated for the unlikely purpose of rallying fans at sporting events. With his former band in the midst... more ›

MONDAY>> We're excited to see Glasgow indie-pop group Camera Obscura headlining the 930 Club tonight. We last saw them at the Black Cat and compared them to Belle and Sebastian. The group's latest album, Let's Get Out of This Country, is whimsical, romantic and will make you feel a little bit better about your life, or at least, this dreary weather. Vermont via Brooklyn band Essex Green opens. 9:30 p.m., $15. >> If your Fugazi... more ›

Street Sense Benefit This Saturday

Street Sense Benefit This Saturday

If you're looking for something to do tomorrow night, you may as well put your money towards supporting local music with a mission. Street Sense, a newspaper written and distributed by the homeless, is holding its annual benefit show at the Black Cat on Saturday night (even after the club balked at letting the show happen). Heading up the night's bill will be ex-Fugazi bass player Joe Lally, supported by Unbuckled alums The Hard Tomorrows and Fairfax-based Jinxed at Twelve. Cover at the door will set you back a mere $10, and all the money raised will go straight to the newspaper. more ›
