Now venerable local bookstore Politics and Prose has been dragged into the ongoing saga of ANC 3F04 Commissioner Frank Winstead's war against there being any reason for people to congregate on the sidewalk along a stretch of upper Connecticut Ave. NW.

On the streets of Georgetown, I once had a conversation with a homeless man about tuna fish sandwiches. I was carrying a large box down the street, and he quite logically thought there was a good chance I had a tuna fish sandwich inside, or perhaps many sandwiches, hence my need for a large container in which to carry them. When he inquired as to the existence of the sandwiches, I was forced to inform him, with regret, that I had none. But we continued talking for a little while, and eventually came to the conclusion that tuna fish sandwiches are quite tasty. And it's those kinds of conversations that make us love living in the city.
The West End Guide reports that Trader Joe's, the gourmet Los Angeles-based grocery chain, is set to open its first location in the District by 2006. Trader Joe's is eyeing the old Columbia Hospital site in the West End, which is being converted to retail and residential use.
DCist can only imagine the looks on the faces of all the tourists on the Old Town Trolley today when its engine caught fire today in Georgetown. As the trolley cut across Georgetown on P Street, its propane-powered engine caught fire on P Street as it approached Wisconsin Avenue outside the Marvelous Market and the Thomas Sweet ice cream store. WTOP reports that merchants came out with fire extinguishers and fire fighters came soon...
