Person Struck by Train at Mt. Vernon Square
METRO Alerts reports that a person has been struck by a train at Mt. Vernon Square. Green and Yellow Line trains are currently sharing the same track between Mt. Vernon Square-Convention Center and Shaw-Howard University while emergency crews access the tracks. Expect delays in both directions on those lines. More soon. 1:51 p.m. WMATA has closed the Mt. Vernon Square station for the time being. Shuttle service around the closure has been requested, but in the meantime, don't count on being able to enter or exit at the station.

Vernon Square taken in 1992 by Jack Boucher for the Historic American Buildings Survey of the Library of Congress, which DCist flickr contributor rockcreek shared with our image pool yesterday. It's a good reminder of how far the neighbohood has come in the last seventeen years.
