Last night, the Wizards drafted 6'11" Czech forward Jan Vesely with the sixth pick in the first round of the NBA Draft. Vesely sounds like he's a solid prospect and all, but the crowd in Newark last night was most impressed by his, uh, scoring ability.
Jan Vesely Has Enormous Kissing Upside
Everybody Do The John Wall!
No surprise here as the Washington Wizards selected John Wall as the #1 draft pick in the 2010 NBA Draft. The SEC Player of the Year was one of five University of Kentucky Wildcats selected in the first round as Leonsis and Co. hope to kickoff a new era for the Wizards franchise. In fact, the organization is already selling “Wall: Game Changer” t-shirts. I mean, no point in wasting time, right? The Wizards have scheduled a meet and greet with Wall at 11:30 a.m. today at the Verizon Center.
That $2.5 Million's Probably Good for 10 Rebounds a Night, Right?
A lot of teams use the annual NBA Draft how it's supposed to be used: a way to spruce up rosters by selecting talented young players from various universities and overseas. As a result, teams usually end up with a younger lineup than they had before.
Wizards Tab USC's Young With the 16th Pick
Last night at the NBA Draft, the West got better by picking some young talent (Greg Oden to Portland, Kevin Durant to Seattle) and the East got better by trading for talent (Zach Randolph to New York, Ray Allen to Boston). The Wizards got better by selecting USC shooting guard/small forward Nick Young. Young averaged just over 17 points per game last year at SoCal and is known for his mid-range jumper and fearless...
Elsewhere in the Ist-a-verse
Sometimes you need to clean yourself up, get serious, and move in with daddie for a few months before you head to Latin America for a new gig. The District bids Jenna Bush adios. D.C.-based television shows have an elderly audience and DCist has some suggestions to fix that. They're also throwing Butterstick the panda bear a birthday bash. Yeah, we may have a few issues with our World Cup broadcasters here, but this guy...
Ibekwe, Strawberry Enter Draft
Maryland juniors Ekenna Ibekwe and D.J. Strawberry are reportedly entering the NBA Draft.
Early Entries Could Hurt Terps, GW
(Editor's Note: DCist would like to welcome another new member to our Sports staff. Hayden Alfano will be covering the local college hoops beat as well as assisting in our upcoming coverage of the 2005 NBA Draft.) After a grueling season, college basketball coaches have little time to relax. The recruiting trail beckons, and they lay awake at night worrying if any of their players will declare early for the NBA Draft. Local hoops coaches...
The End Has No End
Shaq or no Shaq, the Wizards fell once again to the Miami Heat on Saturday and with it brought the end of their season. We could pull a Tony Kornheiser and run around screaming "Remember the Caps?" or listen to Mike Wise when he says that a "bright future" doesn't always turn out the way you envisioned it. We could do that, but we're not going to. Instead let's focus on what the Wiz...
