Marion Barry: Football Analyst

As the world watched the New York Giants beat the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl last night, Councilmember Marion Barry (D-Ward 8), took to Twitter to reminisce about the Redskins' salad days and lament their current woes. more ›

Elsewhere in the Ist-a-verse

The Red Sox has permeated nearly every facet of Bostonist's lives. When they're not live-blogging the games, waxing poetic about the games, thanking Curt Schilling for his splendid work, or telling Dane Cook to watch his hair, they're watching certain presidential candidates hop on the Red Sox bandwagon (sorry, Gothamist). The Sox are so branded on the local brain that people are using the Series to spice up their sex lives. Speaking of spice, Bostonist... more ›

Spiritless Redskins Succumb to Giants, 19-3

Spiritless Redskins Succumb to Giants, 19-3

This year, there was no one-sided beatdown from start to finish, nor was there a handful of obvious miscues and mistakes that directly contributed to the result. But Washington fans, nevertheless, could not have found much joy in this Sunday's listless effort against the New York Giants. In the days leading up to the game, the news was filled with sharp words from former-Redskin-turned-Giant LaVar Arrington, who seemed bent on making the contest into a... more ›

Weekend Sports Roundup

Over the weekend, the Washington Wizards fell victim to that old saying "be careful what you wish for." The 21-year-old LeBron James, already an MVP candidate in his third... more ›

The Washington Redskins treated their fans to a fantastic Christmas Eve by continuing their remarkable reversal of fortune with a well-fought win over the NFC East leading New York Giants, 35-20. The game’s completion ended what had been a remarkable week for Washington that began with a beatdown of the hated Cowboys and continued as every team that needed to lose to put the Redskins into playoff position did so en masse. It was... more ›

Passion of the Gibbs: 'Skins or United. Who Played Worse?

Passion of the Gibbs: 'Skins or United. Who Played Worse?

Ugh. It had been a long time since the Redskins had found their way to a midseason division game that found them looking to actually take over the top spot and assert dominance instead of trying to make up games on the division leader. And after their thorough drubbing of the 49ers, Sunday’s meeting with the Giants was seen as a chance to turn the final corner and start being thought of as a... more ›

The Passion of the Gibbs: Week 13

If you saw the Redskins opening drive of the game against the New York Giants yesterday, you may be one of the people tossing around those adjectives this morning. "Vintage," perhaps. "That was old-school!" you might have said to a coworker this morning. Or a "blast from the past", as the Post termed it. Power running, nifty play-action, a roll-out toss to the soft hands of a tight end, packages moving in and out, culminating, as it should, with a one-yard rush for the opening touchdown. Yeah, you can call that vintage. But you can call it modern, too. A balance of power-running and play-action? That’s what happens week in and week out of the NFL. more ›
