As the snow totals have been steadily piling up, we've all been thinking that we can't remember ever seeing this much snow in D.C. before. Well, now it's official: no one has seen this much snow in D.C., at least not since Pat Collins' great-great-granddad started sticking yardsticks in area snowpacks back in 1884. As of 2:00 this afternoon, the National Weather Service reports that this is indeed the snowiest winter in recorded history for D.C., Baltimore, and Dulles.
Snow Rises, Record Falls
Storm Downgraded Slightly to 7 to 14 Inches
The National Weather Service has just downgraded our Winter Storm Warning slightly to something closer to 7 to 14 inches, with a mix of snow and sleet likely to start things out early this evening. Winds are expected to get up to between 25 to 35 mph, with gusts over 45 mph possible.
Another Winter Storm Watch for Tuesday & Wednesday
Mother Nature thinks we are bad people. That's the only justification we can think of for the latest from the National Weather Service: a Winter Storm Watch is in effect starting Tuesday afternoon through to Wednesday afternoon.
Party at the National Weather Service
Calling all atmospheric sciences geeks: the National Weather Service recently moved in to fancy new headquarters in Sterling, Va., and they're throwing an open house this weekend that's open to the public.
