Although D.C. has a growing group of dedicated photobloggers (see our list on the bottom left) there are many photographers who would like to share their photos online but who don't have the technical skills -- or the time -- to run a full time photoblog. For them there is the Washington DC/Metro Area photo sharing group on the popular photography website Flickr. Flickr can best be described as a super-charged Friendster (or TheFacebook) for photos, where users upload their photos to share with friends, browse photos by topic, and create or join thematic groups. So the MTA in New York is again proposing a photo ban in the city's subway. According to Gothamist, photobloggers are pissed off, perplexed as why their amateur photographic activities are being directly tied to terrorist threats. They even held a protest at Grand Central Terminal. We're a little surprised that WMATA hasn't seriously considered a photo ban in the metrorail system, but perhaps they're all too busy enforcing candy bar bans. more ›

Even though one of Dan Flavin's light sculptures is clearly in view to those outside on Pennsylvania Avenue, the National Gallery will scold you if you attempt to take photos of Flavin's light from inside ... even if it is with a crappy 1.5 megapixel cameraphone. Our fifth featured photoblogger is Grayson Shepard, a 19-year old Georgetown student. His photo-a-day photoblog yakusha featured photos from his native Richmond, Virginia over the summer, but will return to the District in the fall, he assures us.
