It's been way too long since we've featured a shot of a dog in goggles. But gerdaindc was on hand this weekend to fill the void, snapping this canine fashionista at Rolling Thunder.

Great use of negative space, reflections of clouds in a still pond, beautiful bokeh, and a flowering lilly. What's not to love about choofly's picture from the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens?

National airport, old terminal, kimberlyfaye, Hipstamatic on the iPhone, boom.

Photographer volcanojw made great use of negative space in this image. Although National Airport is a building that we are all familiar with, the selection of just a portion of the building while focusing on the repetitive lines and shapes makes this photograph compelling.

This weekend is the return of Artomatic. Mediaslave's photo of a young woman watching a presentation shows the space's unfinished interior that's emblematic of Artomatic.

Are you ready for tomorrow's second leg in the race for the Triple Crown? Matt.Dunn gets us in the mood with this shot of a man and his horse at Pimlico Racetrack clearly discussing (and disagreeing on) who is going to go all the way.

This colorful study of rectangular panes works great in a square crop. Tramod's strong composition was made not with an app but a DSLR.

Mcdanielism used water from the fountain at the new waterfront park in Georgetown as the foreground of this image, and it works nicely.

At first I had a hard time believing Mr. T in DC didn't just attack this unsuspecting turtle with neon paint. But I guess those incredible colors do happen in nature. Awesome.

Photographer Eric Spiegel made great use of lines, light and shadow when making this frame.

"Oooo! What's out there?" I, too, have been bitten by otter mania. The Smithsonian's National Zoo officially unveiled the new otter family to the public today.

It looks to be a great weekend ahead of us, so why not get out there and go paddling on the river with your favorite four-legged friend? ekelly80 shows us how.

It's just an ordinary alley, but with a skewed composition, Noe Todorovich makes it dynamic and even a little sinister.

Once again, csuspect is in the right place at the right time to capture this unusual scene around 7th and H Streets NW.

Love. Sweet love. It is a challenge to gaze upon this photo and not think of Kate & Leo on that boat, and hear the sweet, sweet sounds of Celine Dion singing "My Heart Will Go On." Seriously, if pit bulls in drag making out with humans don't inspire the sounds Quebec's greatest export in your heart, nothing will.

Contrary to popular belief, Cinco de Mayo is not Mexican Independence Day. In Mexico, the celebration has more significance in the state of Puebla, where it's called El Día de la Batalla de Puebla, the day when the underdog Mexican army defeated the French forces. But in the U.S., it's more about Mexican pride...and good deals on margaritas.

There's certainly a debate to be had about whether digitally altered photographs like this even counts as real photography, but no matter where you fall on the debate, it's undeniable that Flickr user blightylad1 did a fantastic job giving Rosslyn an almost apocalyptic, end-of-Ghostbusters-type look.

There has been a serious dearth of aquatic performance art photos in the Flickr pool of late. M.V. Jantzen takes care of that for us.

Photographer Steve Goldenberg captured this brightly colored image on H St. The square frame mimicking the pattern of the colored squares is well, not at all square, it is groovy.

We're not really sure how Flickr user BryanBowman captured this shot, but it almost feels like there should be a somber Johnny Cash song about doing hard time in the background.

Often a photo is made remarkable by the unusual angle from which it is taken. whutchins1's shot is a perfect example. The fisheye lens doesn't hurt either.

"Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Shadow knows!" That's the first thing that popped into my head when I saw this picture from Matt.Dunn of a bearded man in the shadows of Metro.

Is that Mei Xiang at the Argonaut? Thanks to philliefan99, we have a better understanding of the deeper challenges facing the Zoo's giant panda breeding program. (EXIF.)
