Javaris Crittenton Pleads Guilty, Gets One Year Probabtion

Wizards guard Javaris Crittenton was charged with two misdemeanor counts of unlawful gun possession earlier today, but has already entered a guilty plea on one of the charges, as part of a deal with prosecutors, the Post's Keith Alexander and Mike Wise report from D.C. Superior Court.

Senior Judge Bruce Beaudin on Monday agreed with the prosecutor's suggestion and sentenced Crittenton to one year of unsupervised probation and $1,250 in fines. Crittenton also agreed to begin a mentoring program to District children and work with the NBA on relief for Haiti earthquake victims.
The sentence comes after suspended Wizards player Gilbert Arenas pleaded guilty to felony gun possession last week, charges that stemmed from the very same locker room incident that involved the two players brandishing weapons inside the Verizon Center. Arenas is still awaiting sentencing. more ›

Arenas Pleads Guilty to Felony Gun Possession

Word from D.C. Superior Court is that suspended Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas has entered a guilty plea to a single felony count of carrying a firearm without a license. City Paper's Mike DeBonis tweets that sentencing has been set for Mar. 26, and that prosecutors have agreed to recommend a sentence on the lowest end of federal guidelines, which in this case carry a maximum of 6 months. That doesn't mean that Arenas will spend six months in jail, though. It will be up to the judge to determine the amount of time he'll have to serve, and whether that sentence might be suspended. more ›

The AP has since confirmed the news, noting that the mayor's resignation comes shortly after she entered an Alford plea today on a perjury charge. Dixon was convicted last month of embezzling gift cards that were supposed to go to needy Baltimore residents. The AP says the mayor's resignation is effective Feb. 4. more ›

Ted Loza Offered a Plea Deal

That's the word from U.S. District Court this afternoon, where the Washington Post's Del Quentin Wilber was on hand for a brief hearing to set a trial date for Loza, the Jim Graham staffer accused of accepting cash and other gifts from a taxicab lobbyist. Writes Wilber: "Assistant U.S. Attorney John Crabb disclosed the existence of the plea offer during the hearing and said it would expire in two weeks. He declined to comment as he left the courtroom." Loza's attorney said he still needed to review the offer. more ›

Guilty Plea in Tony Hunter Case

The Post is reporting that Robert Hannah has indeed pleaded guilty on simple assault charges in the beating death of Tony Hunter. Word of a plea agreement in the case first leaked out two weeks ago, which prompted D.C. Council member Phil Mendelson to fire off a letter to Acting U.S. Attorney Channing Phillips, urging him to take the case to trial. The deal, it turns out, came about because Hannah was arrested for shoplifting last month for allegedly trying to steal items from an H&M, according to the Post. In exchange for his guilty plea, the shoplifting charge was dropped. Hannah's case has been controversial since the original charges against him were reduced from a felony to misdemeanor, based on his assertion that he only hit Hunter, a gay Maryland man, because Hunter sexually assaulted him before the attack. A friend of Hunter's who was with him at the time has maintained that Hannah's actions were unprovoked. Hannah will be sentenced on Oct. 14. He faces a maximum of 180 days in jail. more ›
