Georgetown students don't waste their valuable time with the five syllables of Wise-mil-ler's De-li. To them it's just "Wisey's," the prime spot for cold drinks, take-out sandwiches and a few household items next to 1789. But two weeks ago, along came another Wisey's. In a summer of high-profile restaurant openings, the handlers of Urbana -- the new restaurant inside the new Hotel Palomar just west of Dupont Circle on P Street -- don't want their charge to get lost in the crowd. And so, last night, they hosted a flashy preview of their eatery to get the word out about the restaurant that replaces the old Gabriel restaurant in the former Radisson-Barceló.

Prunes, and their fiber-rich reputation, are usually synonymous with Aunt Esther’s Secret Weapon for Regulation. But in Ocean City—yes, the less cool O.C.—they became affiliated with a legendary fried dough chain, The Fractured Prune. Beachgoers and locals are all about their made-fresh-to-order donuts, which can be dipped in one of sixteen glazes, eight toppings and three sugars. Their mascot, a shades-clad injured prune man (think geriatric cousin of the California Raisins ilk), has announced to Dupont Circle’s P Street that his establishment is “Coming Soon.”

We've watched for a while now as development crept up 14th Street, from the Whole Foods at P Street to the rebuilt blocks north of Rhode Island Avenue, continuing on to the restaurants and condo buildings around U Street. We've also seen the complete overhaul of the land around the Columbia Heights Metro station, a development project that's rendered the blocks between Columbia Road and Monroe Street unrecognizable. And we've followed along as buildings popped up here and there, attempting to connect the two pockets of construction along one of the city's main thoroughfares. Now it appears an old holdout will be closing, leaving in its place a new link in the street-long chain.

After the Dupont Circle pizzeria Alberto's closed due to a fire in March, the store put up a banner promising to return after "renovations." Following several weeks of apparent inaction, our hopes that we might once again enjoy a delicious jumbo slice at 3 a.m. without venturing to Adams Morgan began to fade. But, we heard this week the pizzeria was back, and we knew we had to see it in person.

DCist is all about small, locally-owned businesses. Hence our partnership with buyindie.net, which seeks to "find, catalog, and promote the good and not so good independently-owned businesses within the District of Columbia." Praise.

Somebody told this DCist that they suspect that the anti-Baltimore graffiti on Columbia Road attributed to Borf could theoretically have been done by a Borf imposter. Well the City Paper, in its City Desk briefing, notes that one Andrew Westbury was apprehended on P Street NW for "allegedly penning an insult to Borf" reading: "Borf is a" ... And that's as far that Mr. Westbury, who the Metropolitan Police describe as a "yuppie-type" sans criminal record, got.

It's official. Target Corp. is planning to anchor the massive urban retail complex that has been long talked about for Columbia Heights. Just how Target's location in Brooklyn made it OK for hipsters to shop at Big Box stores, we think the Columbia Heights Target will create a quandary for the pre-gentrifiers up on the upper 14th Street corridor.
