Kal Penn Spoiled the House Episode That's on My TiVo

All day I've been trying to think of an angle for a quick post on the news that actor Kal Penn (The Namesake, Harold & Kumar) is leaving Hollywood in favor of D.C. and a job inside the White House Office of Public Liaison. We could speculate where he should probably live (Dupont seems the most likely candidate, close enough to walk to work but still young and fun and overpriced), or something like that. But frankly, I've been too pissed that I managed to absolutely ruin the episode of House that's still sitting on my TiVo by skimming the comments in this Lynn Sweet blog post (EW.com was the first to report the news). I'm always happy to welcome another L.A. transplant to town, but Penn couldn't have waited a couple days to announce this one? Gah. He's lucky we went to the same college, so I can't really stay mad for long. Welcome to D.C., Kal. If you're anything like me, you're not going to miss Los Angeles for a second.

Yesterday, when putting together our daily "About Tonight" feature, I scanned several recent concert reviews, looking for signs about whether or not enigmatic singer Neko Case would be performing with the New Pornographers at the 9:30 Club. It was a question anyone with tickets to last night's show (or tonight's), including myself, was asking, because Case, often busy with her solo career, has been known to skip out on New Pornographers tours before. Dan Bejar, off touring with his own band, Destroyer, was already confirmed not to be on this tour, but Case was supposed to be making the journey this time around.

DCist has been sent some unsubstantiated celebrity sightings from this weekend. We put our fact checkers hot on the confirmation trail, but really, celebrity sightings are more intriguing gossip than serious journalistic news, so we've decided to go straight to you, our eyes and ears on the ground. So dish already. Here are the details as we know them right now: On Saturday, the D.C. Office of Motion Picture and Television Development hosted an open...

Last week we sent you to a recent Craigslist post alleging that Al Qaeda was drugging people in Georgetown. After months of being relatively Craiglist free, this post sent us back to a steady Craigslist habit. It looks like 3 p.m. guy has disappeared and middle-finger-guy only occasionally shows up, but the Rants and Raves section still provides entertainment for those wasting time during a slow work day. Today's RnR already has a rather unsophisticated "proof" of the nonexistence of God based on the problem of evil, the usual sexual queries and answers that litter RnR, and a meaningless poll that's bound to get its share of both cooperative responses and flames. But sift through some material and you'll find some real gems. DCist laughed out loud when we clicked on this tasteless post connecting recent judicial events with Hootie. A doctored photo of the Dalai Lama, which pops up all the time, also made us chuckle.

Sometimes, we come across strange and odd stuff on Craigslist. And in a sort-of-funny Rants and Raves post, we learn of a new terrorist threat we face: "Al Qaeda roofied my silly ass and then sent John Goodmans big sister to have her way with me. Just to let me know they can."

We know our readers were probably too busy watching Johnny Damon (yay!) hit a grand slam and may have missed a few key plot points of last night's episode of the West Wing, but not to worry! DCist proudly introduces the first installment of our We Watch So You Don't Have To series. Consider it a public service dear readers, because really, the way this show is going there's no need for all of us to suffer.
