The Saturday Morning Post
Morning Washington. Today might not be the nicest Spring day ever, but with warmer temperatures and a chance of a nice afternoon - we're certainly doing better than we did last Saturday, or the Saturday before that for that matter. With Easter weekend, the city might feel a bit empty this weekend anyway - a perfect excuse to take advantage of some of the more popular spots.
The Saturday Morning Post
Good morning Washington. While D.C. teams enjoyed victories last night, this weather day isn't exactly something to celebrate. Beyond the cold rain, we might have flash flooding, severe storms, high winds - and perhaps a tornado? Yeah, this is the day to stay in and watch movies, do some laundry, or catch up on that project you were working on inside the house. And of course, read your favorite D.C.-themed website.
The Saturday Morning Post
Morning Washington. Looks like we'll slowly thaw out of this unseasonably cold and rainy weather we've been having, but not without some showers today. If you woke up early enough, you caught a glimpse of the sun, but I'm afraid it won't be out much longer today. Tomorrow though, promises ideal cherry blossom viewing weather: partially sunny, reaching 60.
The Saturday Morning Post
Morning Washington. If you're not one of the overachievers running the National Marathon (or perhaps have already finished) you might want to keep in mind the road closures. However, that sun outside is deceiving - we're not getting Spring weather today, so perhaps this Saturday is the perfect one to stay in for tea and a good book, a marathon of your favorite TV show, or a good long nap.
The Saturday Morning Post
Morning, Washington. Ready for your taste of spring weekend? I know I am. We're going to have a relative warm snap for the next 5 days or so, enjoy the warm up. It will probably be nice for those braving the Cupid's Undie Run today.
The Saturday Morning Post
Good morning, Washington. It's shaping up to be a beautiful fall Saturday, though a little chilly early. There are plenty of festivals and events to check out outside today: for those who want to drink, there is the Nova BrewFest in Centreville, for the nerdy, there is the Science and Engineering Festival on the Mall, and for those interested in music, there is the Zest Fest in NoMA. If you want to stay inside and learn about saving the environment, there is the Green Festival at the Washington Convention Center.
Memorial Day Parade Marches On, Prepare for Road Closures
As the holiday weekend comes to a close The Metropolitan Police Department and the U.S. Park Police are warning of one last slew of road closures in preparation for the Memorial Day Parade. The parade's route will take it from the corner of Constitution Avenue and 7th Streets NW, head west to 18th Street and turn north on Virginia Avenue into the dispersal area. The parade steps off at 2 p.m. and will last about three hours, however several closing have been in effect since this morning.
Smoking Manhole, Road Closures in Adams Morgan
AlertDC lets us know that Pepco is on site at 18th Street and Columbia Rd. NW in response to a smoking manhole cover. DDOT spokesperson John Lisle follows up that Columbia Rd. NW has been closed between 18th Street and Kalorama Road as a result of the manhole emergency and smoke, and traffic is being diverted. Pepco, FEMS and the MPD are all on the scene. DDOT says it has also deployed Road Operations Patrol units and Traffic Control Officers to assist with traffic in the area.
Friendly Reminder About National Christmas Tree Lighting
We already warned you, but just in case you are, for some totally insane reason, thinking of trying to drive or take a taxi anywhere near the White House in the next four hours, just say no! The National Christmas Tree lighting ceremony/pageant starts in one hour. Streets will be closed. Pedestrians will be EVERYWHERE. Do not, under any circumstances, attempt to travel by motor vehicle through this part of downtown. Thanks for your cooperation.
National Christmas Tree Program to Muck Up Thursday Evening Commute
The National Christmas Tree lighting ceremony and the "Pageant of Peace" are set for tomorrow night at 5 p.m. Over at City Desk yesterday, Jule Banville hit the nail on the head by dubbing the Bush Christmas tree the "National Hairnet." Here's hoping she's right, and the Obamas will choose a Christmas tree decorating scheme that looks a little bit less like a "twinkling condom."
Marine Corps Marathon on Sunday to Affect Roads, Metro
Planning on riding Metro or driving somewhere on Sunday morning? Take note: Metro expects 30,000 more people than normal to be using the rails that morning, and there will be considerable road closures due to the Marine Corps Marathon, which runs all morning and into the afternoon. The marathon's course hits a wide swath of Arlington and the District, so if you're planning on getting anywhere by vehicle, it might be wise to take a glance at the list of affected roads and steer clear of them between 4 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Metro will also be opening earlier than usual, at 5 a.m., to facilitate runners and spectators. Additionally, Metrobuses that are usually routed through the Pentagon Transit Center will be rerouted to the Pentagon City station until 4 p.m.
