U.S. Attorney General Holder Called To Testify In Wone Civil Trial
Defense Seeks Gag Order For Wone Civil Trial
Who Murdered Robert Wone? has the news that defense counsel for the upcoming Robert Wone wrongful death civil trial has motioned for a gag order during the proceedings. The motion cites "extensive media coverage" of the Wone criminal trial as sufficient reason for containing information during the civil trial -- the motion goes on to accuse the press of "poisoning the jury pool" and also claims the Metropolitan Police Department and the U.S. Attorney's Office have made "multiple inaccurate and untruthful assertions." The Wone trial was big news in Washington, though we'd hardly call it a circus or anything. One legal source tells DCist that one of their colleagues joked that the motion should be dubbed the "Defendants' Motion to Suspend the Constitutional Right of the Plaintiff and her counsel to comment on the exercise of Defendants' Constitutional Right not to comment on anything." But hey, maybe the defense just thinks that the upcoming Chandra Levy murder trial will really get the city's blood flowing.

Three Wone Defendants Found Not Guilty On Charges
The three defendants in the Robert Wone obstruction trial were declared not guilty on obstruction and tampering charges this afternoon in one of the biggest official rulings in the case to date. Joseph Price, 39, Dylan Ward, 39, and Victor Zaborsky, 44, who opted for a ruling from the bench over a jury trial, were all charged with obstruction of justice, tampering with evidence and conspiracy -- though Zaborsky and Ward were both acquitted on the evidence tampering charges halfway through the trial.
Closing Arguments in Wone Trial Today
The trial against the three defendants charged with covering up the murder of Robert Wone begins its final wrap-up today, with closing arguments starting at 10 a.m. this morning in D.C. Superior Court. Since it was not a jury trial, Judge Lynn Leibovitz will deliberate the fate of Joseph Price, Dylan Ward and Victor Zaborsky, none of whom testified on their behalf. They face sentences of up to 35 years for obstruction of justice and conspiracy charges and up to 38 years for tampering with evidence. Ward, Zaborsky Acquitted on Tampering Charges in Wone Trial
The first news today in the conclusion of the trial of Joseph Price, Dylan Ward, and Victor Zaborsky has hit: Judge Lynn Leibovitz granted the defense's motion for acquittal for the charges of tampering with evidence against Ward and Zaborsky. Price will still face the tampering charge, since he acknowledged handling the knife the defendants claim was used to kill Robert Wone. This news means that all three still face the charges of conspiracy and obstruction of justice.
Latest Details in the Wone Conspiracy Case: Still Weird
Today's update in the Washington Post from the trial of Joseph Price and co-defendants Victor Zaborsky and Dylan Ward reveals that the prosecution narrowed its focus this week on one piece of evidence regarding the alleged conspiracy to murder Robert Wone: the knife. The case took two significant turns this week.

Three Years Later, Robert Wone Murder Still Unsolved
Kathy Wone, the widow of slain D.C. lawyer Robert Wone, released a statement to the media on Sunday night, on the third anniversary of the still unsolved crime:
"My husband, Robert, was a beautiful, loving person who was murdered in the prime of his life three years ago today. From the beginning, those who victimized Robert -- and his family -- have sought to cover-up and delay, hoping that we would forget. But we will not forget; we will never forget. The residents of Washington, D.C. must ensure that this case is solved and that those responsible are held to account. From this point forward, we expect the pending criminal proceedings to move expeditiously. In a case that already has languished for three years, there can be no more delays. We owe it to Robert -- who did so much for so many -- to bring to justice the persons responsible for his murder and the cover-up of his murder."The bloggers at Who Murdered Robert Wone? have also been posting special 3rd anniversary updates since the weekend, which look back at the earliest reports of the crime. To date, no murder charges have been filed in the killing, but roommates and partners Joe Price, Victor Zaborsky, and Dylan Ward are all facing obstruction of justice and conspiracy charges, and the Wone family has filed a wrongful death suit against the three men. The criminal trial won't begin until next spring.
Wone Family Files Civil Suit; Ward Released
The Post has the latest details on the Robert Wone murder case. The third roommate in the house where Wone was fatally stabbed two years ago, Dylan Ward, was finally extradited from Florida to the District yesterday, and has since been released pending trial on obstruction of justice charges. Like his co-defendents, Ward was forced to hand in his passport and wear an ankle monitoring bracelet. But the bigger news is that Wone's family has filed a wrongful death civil suit against all three men, based largely on the same obstruction charges they currently face. According the Post, the family's complaint alleges that the three men "conspired to thwart the investigation" into Wone's murder.
Wone Murder Roommates Plead Not Guilty
The Post reported over the weekend that Joseph Price and Victor Zaborsky pleaded not guilty on Friday to obstruction of justice charges related to the murder investigation of Robert Wone. Both men were released pending trial after agreeing to turn in their passports, undergo random drug testing and wear ankle monitoring bracelets. The third roommate living in the Swann Street NW home where Wone was killed, Dylan Ward, was previously ordered held in federal custody in Florida without bond pending extradition to the District of Columbia. All three men were indicted on obstruction charges in the case after prosecutors submitted evidence that they appear to have cleaned up the crime scene before police arrived.
Wone Murder Update: All Three Roommates Indicted
The Washington Post is reporting that all three men who resided in the Swann Street NW home where attorney Robert Wone was killed over two years ago have been indicted on obstruction of justice charges. The three men, Joe Price, 37, Victor Zaborsky, 42, and Dylan Ward, 38, have been of interest to the police since at least August of 2006, and Ward was arrested several weeks ago in Miami-Dade County, Fla., where he now lives, after a disturbing affidavit that included new details of the murder investigation was filed to support obstruction charges against him. Today's news is that all three men have now been indicted by a grand jury on obstruction charges. Price turned himself in this morning and is expected to be arraigned in D.C. Superior Court this afternoon; Ward and Zaborsky are both expected to be arraigned this week.

Wone, 32, was stabbed three times in the chest with a butcher knife that police have said came from the kitchen. Three other men were in the house at the time of the murder, and yet no...
Morning Roundup: I'm Sorry Edition
We promise you, Washington, we’ll let go of this soon. Very soon. By November 7th at the latest. Yesterday, George Allen placed a telephone call to S.R. Sidarth to apologize yet again for the slip of the tongue that has sent his campaign into a tailspin. Allen’s critics remain unimpressed, including the 50 protesters that greeted President Bush’s arrival at an Allen fundraiser yesterday with signs that included, "Hey, George, macaca is a bad word."...
Wone Murder Investigation Turns Towards Conspiracy
Earlier this week we reported on some of the twists and turns in the murder investigation of 32-year-old lawyer Robert Wone in a Swann Street rowhouse in early August. A killing that was originally blamed on an intruder suddenly became more complicated late last week, when police announced that the room in which Wone's body had been found had been cleaned before police could arrive at the scene. Commenters on our post -- some who...
Wone Murder Remains a Mystery
Tragic as many homicides in the District are, most aren't that much of a mystery. A robbery gone wrong, a drug-related beef, an innocent bystander hit by a stray bullet -- the killings can be explained. Unfortunately, just the opposite is true in the killing of 32-year-old lawyer Robert Wone.
