Metro To Install More Security Cameras

Better perfect that smile: Metro announced this morning that they've won a $2.8 million grant which will be used to install 153 "very high quality color" surveillance cameras at the entrances to Metro stations, reports the Examiner. According to Metro Transit Police Chief Michael Taborn, "most" of the system's stations will be covered by the new cameras, and they will be installed over the next six months. more ›

New Crime Camera at Kalorama Rd. and Champlain Street NW

Mayor Fenty, Chief Lanier and Ward 1 Council member Jim Graham today showed off the new Closed Circuit Television camera that's been installed at Kalorama Road and Champlain Street NW. The intersection has been the site of several recent violent crimes, including an officer involved shooting in which a suspect was fatally shot and two police officers were injured. "This technology is instrumental to our work as we continue to fight crime, and make our neighborhoods safe," Mayor Fenty said in a statement. New Cameras to Deter (or At Least, Record) Crime at Metro Stations

Anacostia, Rhode Island Avenue, and Congress Heights all make the list of 10 Metro stations that will be receiving new surveillance cameras over the next six months, Metro Transit Police said yesterday. The Post reports today that the District is kicking in $225,000 towards the effort. Transit Police have recommended that Maryland and Virgina install additional cameras at stops in their jurisdictions as well, especially at stops at the ends of lines. more ›
