Redskins Suspend Albert Haynesworth For Rest Of Season
Albert Haynesworth, who has to be one of the National Football League's all-time leaders in conversation created/actual time spent playing ratio, has been suspended by the team for the remaining four games of the the season. Haynesworth's final 2010 statistics: 8 games, 16 tackles, 2.5 sacks, $14.3 million earned. It sounds like the messy, expensive marriage between the defensive lineman and the team finally hit a breaking point. The Redskins released the following statement made by Head Coach Mike Shanahan: "Yesterday, when Albert was at Redskin Park, he told our General Manager Bruce Allen that he [Haynesworth] would no longer speak with me. Although suspending any player is not a decision that a head coach enters into lightly, I believe the situation has reached the point where the club clearly has no alternative." Frankly, we're just shocked that Shanahan didn't just end the whole sad song and dance and cut the guy.
Two Metro Operators Drug Tested After Death on Train
UPDATE 5:19 p.m. WMATA spokesperson Ron Holzer now says that this report isn't totally accurate. Holzer says that the two operators were "taken out of service" for routine drug and alcohol testing, which is standard procedure after an incident of this magnitude. The employees were apparently never suspended or put on leave, according to Holzer, despite what the transit agency told the Washington Post earlier today.

A train operator was suspended for 30 days and an interlocking operator was suspended for 10 days, both without pay. No one was injured in the incident, in which a Red Line train, moving through the rail yard with no passengers aboard, ran a red signal and subsequently derailed.

Earlier today, I called Commissioner Stern to apologize, and I hope we will be able to talk soon. I look forward to the day I can return to basketball. In the meantime, I will focus on dealing responsibly with this serious situation and I will continue to cooperate fully with the investigations by law enforcement and NBA authorities."
NBA Suspends Gilbert Arenas Indefinitely
No matter what you may think of Agent Zero at this point, you gotta admit this is one crappy birthday present:
"Although it is clear that the actions of Mr. Arenas will ultimately result in a substantial suspension, and perhaps worse, his ongoing conduct has led me to conclude that he is not currently fit to take the court in an NBA game," commissioner David Stern said in a statement Wednesday. "Accordingly, I am suspending Mr. Arenas indefinitely, without pay, effective immediately pending the completion of the investigation by the NBA."more ›
