Man Dies After Police Use Taser to Subdue Him

A man has died after a struggle with Arlington County Police officers during which he was subdued with a stun gun, officials said today. The incident took place around 8 p.m. on Sunday night inside the Pentagon City Metro station. Police say an officer stunned the man, who was a larceny suspect, after he assaulted the officer who was trying to take him into custody. The man was then transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name has not yet been released pending notification of his family. Police say an investigation is ongoing. more ›

Rockville Police Officer Shocks, Shoots Jesus

Following several hours spent trying to subdue him -- an effort that including zapping him with a Taser multiple times -- Rockville police were forced to shoot Jesus, a 120-pound Rottweiler/Pit bull mix. Police were summoned after the dog reportedly snapped, attacking his owner, who suffered injuries consistent with a berserk attack from a massive, wrathful dog. Fortunately, the dog did not attack the four police offers who were at one point in the house working to bring down the animal -- or the three children present in the home. The MPD's use of Tasers has sparked controversy in the past, but in a situation where it was most justified, the Taser didn't serve any use. (The Taser also couldn't stop Jim Spellman.) more ›
