Back in October, we reported on a weekly comedy showcase at the 18th Street hangout Bossa that went homeless after some beef between the venue's managers and the show's emcees. It was a sad day for many budding Washington comics, since the Thursday nights at Bossa had a Dead Poets Society-meets-Cheers camaraderie. It felt like home for the comics and Bossa regulars. At DCist, we crossed our fingers that the word would spread, and another...

While I can’t yet rank it against the city’s other offerings, Bukom Café seems as good a place as any to acquaint yourself with West African cuisine. Despite its location below The Reef’s upper levels, it’s far from sceney as it offers refuge from the drunken mayhem lurking just outside its doors. The sunken dining area offers semi-seclusion in the rear, while the tables on the main floor provide a view of the house band. Though the band was in the groove, Bukom's food was clearly the main event.

If you're anything like this writer, the last big election returns "party" you went to turned into a vast pit of sorrow and despair you'd like not to repeat. Or maybe you joyously tossed balloons and toasted champagne at your party's continuing reign. Either way, the fate of the next two years of our country is being decided and you need a place to go tonight to watch, with trepidation and a beer, as the results come in. This is D.C., so you've got a few options:

Engines thumping, and pumping in time. Everyone, including Daily Candy, Don Rockwell, aunts and uncles, etc. have been telling us that Viridian is opening this weekend. Looks like it's true, despite the dose of snark in last week's Feed.

We here at DCist love happy hours. After all, we've thrown a few ourselves (at The Reef, Big Hunt, Biddy Mulligan's, and Chief Ike's Mambo Room), and we try to emerge from behind our computers now and then to attend those put on by fellow bloggers, residents, and activists.

If asked where to go for brunch in Adams Morgan, LeftBank would be very low on our list. Call us cheap, but we're no fans of $12 cocktails or the restaurant's pricey menu. In a pinch, however, we might have considered the place. But a reader pointed out a policy that now puts LeftBank on our "do not ever ever go there" list: $2.50 refills for all cups of coffee.

Today will be mostly sunny with highs around 40. The National Weather Service has issued an advisory warning commuters to watch out for icy patches on roads as temperatures dipped below freezing last night. The photo is a fish at The Reef in Adams Morgan.

The weather reports had DCist worrying about the tropical possibilities for this Thursday evening’s Launch Party/Happy Hour at The Reef in Adams Morgan. But it appears Mr. Ivan T. Terrible is taking his time to tarry in the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico before making landfall in the United States, putting any potential rainfall, as all good Gulf Coast hurricanes are wont to bring to the mid-Atlantic region, on track for Friday. This means that...

DCist will hold our first-ever happy hour next Thursday, Sept. 16 to celebrate our official launch! We'll be at The Reef in Adams Morgan from 7 to 10 p.m., on their outside deck weather permitting. The Reef is located at 2446 18th St. NW. Stop by and say hello!
