In preparation for a weekend of drinking and brunching, we take a look at some of our favorite Bloody Marys around town.

Banh Mi Smackdown at Ba Bay
Last night, Ba Bay played host to a pre-Taste of the Nation banh mi smackdown to raise money for Share Our Strength, an organization that fights childhood hunger. The competition pitted chefs from Ba Bay, Dino, Lyon Hall, Proof, PS7's and The Source against each other to see who could create the best banh mi.
Click Click: Brunch at The Source
This summer The Source introduced a weekend brunch menu, which offers a refined spin on traditional brunch items that will change through the seasons. We were recently invited to try some of crab cake champ Scott Drewno's menu additions.
Crab Cake Chef of the Year: The Source's Scott Drewno
The Source chef Scott Drewno has already snagged the prestigious title of D.C. Chef of the Year. Now he's picked up two more honors to add to his collection: at the American Institute of Food and Wine's 5th annual "I Love Crab Cakes!" competition on Monday at Phillips Seafood at the Southwest Waterfront, Drewno's riff on a BLT sandwich won him both the people's choice award and top honores from the judges' panel of D.C. chefs and food journalists.
Chewing the Fat: Chef Wolfgang Puck of The Source
Wolfgang Puck is probably one of the most well known chefs in America, and became one of the first "celebrity chefs" in the U.S. with his opening of Spago. Born in Austria, he trained in France before coming to the U.S., making a stop in Indianapolis before settling in Los Angeles. Along with running catering operations (he is the official caterer of the Academy Awards Governor's Ball), writing cookbooks, hawking his own line of wares on QVC, playing himself and voicing characters in movies (he'll be playing Chef Smurf in The Smurf Movie), he owns over 15 restaurants, including The Source, located in the Newseum. Between wine dinners, we were able to catch up with the charming chef to ask him about his path to becoming a chef and what inspires him.
Eating Your Way to Election Day
This election season, the electorate is hungry for change. Or perhaps we’re just hungry. As the presidential campaign enters its home stretch, area bars and restaurants are rolling out election-themed eats and drinks. Around town you can eat a sushi roll or hamburger that represents your favorite candidate; drink a martini that represents your true political color; watch a debate while dining on Undecider Sliders and sipping an On The Fence martini. While seasoned campaigners know that true election eats more closely resemble donuts, cold pizza, and stale beer, you members of the Washington elite may toast your status with a Blue Donkey or Red Elephant.
The 2008 RAMMYs go to...
Despite the stuffy weather, more than 1600 curious guests gathered at the 26th annual RAMMY Restaurant Awards Gala yesterday to honor the cream of this year's culinary crop. Those who braved the weather were treated to the best of D.C.'s fine dining, all exemplifying the Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington's commitment towards using regional and locally sourced ingredients, while still showcasing the city as a global dining destination.
