Video: Transformers 3 "Bumblebee" Car Hits Police Cruiser

UPDATE: Fox 5 reports that the vehicle was indeed an Metropolitan Police Department SUV, and that the wreck was not supposed to happen.

There aren't a whole lot of big-time action movie shoots in D.C., so perhaps those tasked with keeping the line between filming and real life are a little rusty. A tipster sends in the above video, which appears to depict the yellow "Bumblebee" sports convertible, which will feature prominently in Transformers 3, t-boning a police cruiser which happened to be driving down 3rd Street SW during filming. The "Bumblebee" apparently was cruising down Maryland Avenue near the National Museum of the American Indian, when it stuck the police vehicle at the Avenue's intersection with 3rd Street. The above video was shot from the Voice of America building at 330 Independence Avenue SW. more ›

SHIA LABEOUF CAUGHT SMOKING IN SMITHSONIAN BATHROOM?

The second Transformers movie, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, is apparently filming in Washington right now, because people keep sending us celebrity gossip reports that actor Shia LaBeouf allegedly set off a smoke alarm inside a bathroom at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum over the weekend when he tried to sneak a cigarette inside the building. The story seems to have come entirely from the National Enquirer, however, so we should probably take it with a grain of salt for now. The actor was recently fined $500 for smoking illegally on a Burbank sidewalk (you can't even smoke outside in many California cities now). Why is Shia LaBeouf famous again? more ›

Schools Could Lose Federal Funding: An internal D.C. Public Schools report has found that officials diverted funds from a vocational education grant and put it toward school building maintenance and construction, an act which constitutes a “direct violation” of federal law which could lead D.C. Schools to lose their federal funding. The total findings of this recent audit, which appear in a 'High Risk memo,' also shed light on how school officials have been guilty of bad accounting and payroll practices and failing to conduct supply inventories for years at a time. more ›

Popcorn & Candy: Feeling Hot, Hot, Hot

Popcorn & Candy: Feeling Hot, Hot, Hot

DCist's highly subjective and hardly comprehensive guide to the most interesting movies playing around town in the coming week. Indie: Sunshine A group of astronauts are on a suicide mission to save a dying Sun, lest the earth perish as well. While it may sound like a plot suitable for Michael Bay's Armageddon 2: Bigger and Hotter, in the hands of director Danny Boyle (Trainspotting) and his 28 Days Later screenwriter, Alex Garland, it may... more ›
