Tucker Carlson Laments Independence from Britain

If it were up to conservative commentator Tucker Carlson, American citizens would still pay taxes and homage to Queen Elizabeth II. Think we're kidding? We're not. In a chat on the Post's website yesterday, Carlson inveighed against District voting rights and sided with taxation without representation. From the transcript:

Katy, Tex.: Non Palin question. Considering that the Washington, D.C., crowd continues to elect Marion Barry to publicly paid posts, why does anyone think it is a good idea to let them elect a full-fledged representative to the House?

Via Wonkette, some lovely video of everyone's favorite political pundit/dancer with zero shame or credibility, Tucker Carlson. In the wake of the accusations of lewd activity in a men's bathroom against Sen. Larry Craig (R-Idaho), Carlson appeared on MSNBC Live on Tuesday to proclaim Craig as seeming awfully guilty, and later told host Dan Abrams that some twenty years ago he and a friend once beat up a gay man who he says made...

>> We realize it's been a while since we stirred the pot on Butterstick mania, but there's a new way to celebrate your love for all things panda. Keds has their own (surprisingly cute) panda shoes. No, they're not made of real pandas, but these canvas creations might be some comfort after Tai Shan is ripped from our grasp and shipped off to China this fall.

Remember that tingling sensation running rampant in the city this time last year? No, not that one. It was the anticipation of Washington getting an honest-to-goodness A-list power couple. Well, those halcyon days are officially over with the news that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt won't be moving to town any time soon. Washingtonians dying to bump into Brangelina in the baby formula aisle of Whole Foods will have to look about 1,000 miles southwest....

Good news and bad news for all you Tucker Carlson groupies, and you know who you are. First, the good news: The Philly Inquirer reports that the former "Crossfire" commentator has just signed a contract with MSNBC and will host an as of yet unnamed program at 9 p.m. So, good news! Tucker will be back on the air in all his bow tied glory.

Good morning. Today will be partly cloudy this morning and clearing later with highs around 40. Today is also the first publication date for the Washington Examiner, Washington's new free daily newspaper. (Although their website hasn't launched yet - see dcexaminer.com.) The paper is available for free in red boxes around town and delivered free to some neighborhoods. (Seen in the Ambivalent Images photo to the right.)

CNN announced this morning that they've parted ways with the button down, bow-tied host Tucker Carlson and his show "Crossfire".

If you thought that the Tucker Carlson/Jon Stewart feud was the only political pundit vs. pseudo-journalist battle going on, think again. Our own irreverent Wonkette seems to be on the outs with Newsweek writer Chris Gasparino. NY Post columnist Elisa Lipsky Karasz tattles that the duo are in the midst of a grudge match that began with their joint appearance on the CNBC show "Topic A with Tina Brown". Following that heated "debate", full-time blogger...

Unless you've been skipping out on Wonkette, the Post's Lisa de Moraes or anyone who comments on the performance of political pundits, you've heard plenty about the comments of Jon Stewart of "The Daily Show" during a special visit to Friday's "Crossfire."
