Elsewhere in the Ist-a-verse
The Red Sox has permeated nearly every facet of Bostonist's lives. When they're not live-blogging the games, waxing poetic about the games, thanking Curt Schilling for his splendid work, or telling Dane Cook to watch his hair, they're watching certain presidential candidates hop on the Red Sox bandwagon (sorry, Gothamist). The Sox are so branded on the local brain that people are using the Series to spice up their sex lives. Speaking of spice, Bostonist...
Wizards Tab USC's Young With the 16th Pick
Last night at the NBA Draft, the West got better by picking some young talent (Greg Oden to Portland, Kevin Durant to Seattle) and the East got better by trading for talent (Zach Randolph to New York, Ray Allen to Boston). The Wizards got better by selecting USC shooting guard/small forward Nick Young. Young averaged just over 17 points per game last year at SoCal and is known for his mid-range jumper and fearless...
College Hoops Rundown
Colossal Meltdown for GW Any time you blow a 20 point second half lead, it makes for a particularly ugly loss. GW's 74-65 loss to USC in the John Wooden Classic on Saturday qualifies as such. This one was just plain nasty. Two minutes into the second half, GW held a commanding 36-16 lead against their counterparts from USC. Up until that point, the Colonials had played sparkling defense, protecting the basket while forcing the...

With visions of sugar plum fairies dancing through their heads, the -Ists began to get into that holiday mood. Well, some did.

Torontoist visits the site of a new Frank Gehry structure, stalks "the elusive Bahamas streetcar", and watches Tom Green get surgery. Phillyist rejoices in the Phillies' wild card chances, mourns the injuries sustained by Eagles defensive end Jevon Kearse, and goes pirate on our asses. SFist notes that Guns and Roses were in town, that San Franciscans are taking over reality TV, and that the San Francisco Chronicle's skills of original nomenclature could use some...
Taking the "We" Out of DCist
In the past we've received - how should we say? - a few choice comments on the Gothamist editorial policy of using the "we" voice. What can we say? We're sorry if you don't like it, but being a collective blogging hivemind, we think that we should use the we, as we like to represent ourselves as a larger editorial voice. But we understand where you're coming from. For those who cannot stand the "we", Eric Richardson, a communications major at USC, came up with Singularist, a scripted site that takes out the "we" and transforms the text to make it look like it was written from the first-person perspective. He intended it for use on LAist, but has kindly made it so that the script can be used on any of the -ist sites. You can get your singular DCist fix here. You can also read an interview with Richardson over at Chicagoist. Our opinion? We think it's pretty funny and inventive.
Redskins Offseason In Full Swing
In the week since the NFL concluded its season with the Pro Bowl festivities in Honolulu, football fans have become reacquainted with their spouses and dependents, gotten out of their homes a bit more, and have been uncomfortably reminded of the National Hockey League’s non-existence. But even as the roar of the crowd and memories of another Patriots championship slowly fade, the front office of your Washington Redskins has been buzzing with activity. Tomorrow is...
