If you didn't already spend your lunch hour, like we did, listening to the series of voicemail recordings, leaked to the Washington City Paper, that Marion Barry left for ex-girlfriend and alleged "stalkee" Donna Watts-Brighthaupt, we can verify that they make for fairly fascinating listening. The tapes (and the Loose Lips column that goes with them) have even started to become a bit of an internet sensation, if the WCP's Twitter feed is any judge: "Marion Barry killed our web server :'( ... we're working on bringing it back to life," they updated earlier this afternoon. The web site and the tapes are both back up now though, so take a gander, or if you can't listen in your office, they're also offering some typed up partial transcripts.

Nice work by the Post's David Nakamura over at D.C. Wire -- he figured out that you can still call an old extension at the Office of Tax and Revenue and hear an outgoing message that begins, "You've reached the office of Harriette Walters." Apparently officials decided to keep the line active with Walters's voice message to see if anyone would leave a message for her that would aid investigators. We just gave it a call ourselves -- 202.442.6762 -- and indeed, there is Walters, sounding officious as she leaves instructions on how to reach her. Give it a call yourself if you've ever been curious what her voice sounds like, but do it fast. Odds are good the city is going to shut it down now that random residents are calling it for kicks.

If you caught the morning network news shows or read this Washington Post story detailing the whole affair, then you may already know the story of Devraj "Dave" S. Kori, a senior at Lake Braddock Secondary School in Fairfax County, who called the school system's administrator at home last week to give him a hard time about not declaring a snow day. Kori found a number for Dean Tistadt, chief operating officer for the county system, listed in the phone book, and decided to call to ask why he had not closed the schools after about three inches of snow fell near Burke, Va. What he got in return was an angry voicemail, posted to YouTube above, from Tistadt's wife.
