Fred Smoot may have missed a tackle or 20 over the years, but all will be forgiven if the former Redskin can follow through on the most recent of his many words. Dan Steinberg was dutifully listening to the radio over the weekend and caught Smoot's comments on the District's breakfast needs:

"I'm actually in the process of starting a couple businesses up here. I'm bringing Waffle House to D.C. -- I think they've been yearning for it for a long time. My first location is right off 14th and U."

The oven-like heat outside reminds us of summers off from school, which in turn got us into a conversation about the fast food we remember from those days. Maybe it's a good thing that the D.C. area, and the city in particular, isn't overrun with these places, but it doesn't mean we don't remember them fondly -- or, for that matter, dearly wish they had a few outlets closer by at times like these.
