WMATA released its July weekend track maintenance schedule earlier this week (there was no work scheduled for the 4th of July holiday weekend), and it's a big 'un. The combination of so many repair and maintenance projects with the ongoing Red Line crash investigation should make for slow going in many areas across the Metrorail system for the next several weekends.

Metro posted its track maintenance reminder this morning, and it looks like Orange and Red Line riders will bear the brunt of delays this weekend.

You got two full weekends off thanks to the tourists, but now Metro has to start doing its regular weekend track maintenance routine again. WMATA sent out a reminder today that service on the Red and Orange lines will be affected by track work this weekend.

What with all the special events and holidays of the last couple of months, Metro riders have had it relatively easy in terms of major weekend track work delays. That all ends in February, when Metro will begin a big track rehabilitation project at the Pentagon station during the President’s Day holiday weekend, along with other maintenance projects.
