Capitol Lounge, fixture of the Capitol Hill bar scene, launched a revamped, Teddy Folkman-created menu over the weekend. Folkman, who can be seen on TV competing to be The Next Food Network Star, accepted the Executive Chef role at the Lounge after helping owner Joe Englert in launching H Street Country Club’s Mexican-themed menu. Their goal is to “raise the bar,” providing gourmet bar food to the staffers and Hill denizens that frequent Pennsylvania Avenue.

Two Chances to Stuff Yourself Silly Tonight
For some reason, there's a convergence of eating contests tonight. Perhaps it is the work of the nefarious International Federation of Competitive Eating. (Yeah, there is one, and apparently they have safety standards that don't appear to include Lipitor.) First, via the WBJ, there's a tater tot eating contest at Bar Louie in Chinatown ... "contestants will have six minutes to eat as many tater tots as possible. The winner gets a $250 Bar Louie gift card, a tot-tastic trophy, a party in his/her honor, and free tots for a year." 8 to 10 p.m. Next, the Rock and Roll Hotel is hosting a wing eating contest from 9 to 11 p.m., featuring a regular wing contest and a hot hot hot wing eating contest, with prizes ranging from $50-$100. $10 gets you all you can eat wings, plus $2 PBRs during the contest. Go for the spectacle, we suppose, but if you think you might want to compete, here's a few tips for competitive eating.
Don't Forget the Mumbo Sauce... In Your Pop Music
Like half-smokes, go-go and taxation without representation, mumbo sauce is something that's uniquely D.C. And suddenly, it's getting bandied about all over the radio. We're not talking about the group Mambo Sauce, who have their own ode to the District. We're talking about DJ Flexx (of WPGC)'s "Chicken Wings & Fried Rice", a song that is — seriously — entirely about mumbo sauce. You can listen to a partial clip here, or tune your radio...
In Case You Forgot Tomorrow's Thanksgiving...
We here at the DCist constantly extol the virtues of living in a city with abundant resources of all kind. Do you need to see an awesome show at a small venue? Check. Do you need to look at physical copies of the country's most important documents? Check. Do you have a need to see Matthew Lesko now and again? Got it. Other than that whole "vote in Congress" thing, D.C. probably has what you...
Caps Briefing: Isn't It Ironic
Earlier this season, the Caps ranked first in the entire NHL - for about an hour, before the Ottawa Senators reclaimed the lead. Yesterday the Caps were tied for last place overall, and had spent two whole days in sole possession of last place in the Eastern Conference. The Senators, meanwhile, remained on top of the league with thirteen wins and one loss. Last night, with three of their top five wingers out injured, the...
Gone to Ghana
While I can’t yet rank it against the city’s other offerings, Bukom Café seems as good a place as any to acquaint yourself with West African cuisine. Despite its location below The Reef’s upper levels, it’s far from sceney as it offers refuge from the drunken mayhem lurking just outside its doors. The sunken dining area offers semi-seclusion in the rear, while the tables on the main floor provide a view of the house band. Though the band was in the groove, Bukom's food was clearly the main event.
We Are All Hogs on the Hill
By DCist contributor Celeste Dawn Mitchell Any time's a good time for barbecue -- it's one of the few foods I have a perpetual hankerin' for. And the saving grace in working in the outer reaches of Northeast is my proximity to Hogs on the Hill, home of "DC's Best Hickory Smoked Pit B-B-Q." The venerable "Hogs" is nowhere near the Hill, and the number "3" on the storefront is a holdover from its franchise...
