Shortly after news leaked that President Barack Obama was to announce the death of Osama bin Laden, several District residents — many of them students from nearby George Washington University, taking a break from studying for their finals — made their way to the White House to celebrate the news. The impromptu celebration turned into a massive gathering, drawing hundreds of others in a boisterous, sign-waving, lamppost-climbing, anthem-filled display of happiness. It seems like time away in The Dead Weather has given Alison Mosshart, half of The Kills, the ultra-confidence she lacked the last time she and co-conspirator Jamie Hince came to town in 2009. With a set mostly comprised of tracks from their recent effort, Blood Pressures, The Kills wowed a sold-out 9:30 Club crowd with an electric and ferocious performance on Sunday night.

As if we weren’t excited enough about the upcoming Dismemberment Plan shows at the end of the week, the guys brought our anticipation to a fever pitch by a) releasing some more tickets for their Black Cat and 9:30 Club shows yesterday and b) playing a secret show at Galaxy Hut on Saturday night. Considering the size of Galaxy Hut, most local Plan fans didn’t get that hypothetical gold-leaf engraved invite, but here are some photos of the intimate event which should hold you over…at least until their Late Night with Jimmy Fallon appearance on Thursday night.
