For years, Metrobus passengers have obsessively hoarded change to ensure that elusive perfect bus fare, juggled paper transfers, and struggled to stuff crumpled bills into the fare machines as drivers continued relentlessly on their routes.

My fellow DCists: those days are no longer. Metro is telling WTOP their planned conversion is finally complete, and all buses now accept the miraculous SmarTrip cards – and they’ll even keep track of transfers for you electronically. To top it off, Metro is saying they have the cards to sell you.
