Just as the bulk of the massive Georgetown utility construction wrapped up on M Street a few months back and traffic through the core of Georgetown went from chronically clogged to sort-of clogged, things are about to get worse at Wisconsin Avenue and M Street.
According to an e-mail from the District to Text Alert subscribers in Georgetown, Burleith and Hillandale, the city, in an effort to repair the 1830s-era bridge that carries Wisconsin Avenue over the C&O Canal, will partially shut down Wisconsin Avenue between M and K streets for a year. While one lane of traffic will be maintained for northbound traffic coming from the waterfront, southbound traffic is being rerouted to 29th, 30th and 31st streets.
But don’t worry, “[e]very effort is being made to minimize project disruptions …” DCist says avoid Wisconsin Avenue and use 28th Street. If you’re stuck on M Street, there’s not much you can do once you’re bogged down in traffic.
