The Post is indicating that there is a distinct possibility that voters could sweep three D.C. city council members out of office. Incumbents who are targeted in strong challenges include Harold Brazil, who holds an at-large seat; Kevin Chavous, who represents Ward 7; and Sandy Allen, who represents Ward 8.

Allen is being challenged by Marion Barry, D.C.’s former mayor, who is trying to recapture his old Anacostia seat. The city council and Barry’s own pastor have endorsed Allen, but Barry’s cult hero status in Anacostia could counter Allen’s endorsements.

But is appears that Brazil could be the one who is in the most serious danger of being ousted. Scandal has tarnished his name. The AFL-CIO has endorsed his challenger, saying the city has “Harold Brazil fatigue.” And last week, the W.Times said that Brazil’s re-election staff had illegally converted a sidewalk to parking spaces.

DCist says that although national politics will dominate the city’s electoral landscape this fall, it seems that District city council races will be just as hotly contested.
