Bob Pollard and Guided By Voices announced in April that their current tour, entitled The Electric Conclusion Tour would be there last ever, making Saturday’s gig at the 9:30 Club their last ever D.C. performance. DCist was on hand to chronicle this grand event, and needless to say, the band went out with a bang.

At around 11:30 p.m., the crowd was treated to a video retrospective chronicling GBV’s 21 years together. And yes, most of the pictures featured the various band members with beer cans in their hand. Then the band hit the stage and proceeded to play over 40 songs in their 2-plus hour set. Not bad for $20, eh? Some of the standouts included “Girls Of Wild Strawberries,” “Redmen And Their Wives,” “I’ll Replace You With Machines,” “I Am A Tree,” “A Game of Pricks” and the ultra rare track “My Impression Now.” Pollard would introduce a track with something like “This is a B-Side from a Japanese only vinyl import that was released and immediately deleted 3 weeks later” and then the entire crowd would commence singing along to every word.
