DCist had heard rumors about Republicans in Hollywood, but never really believed them until you know who was elected governor of California.

Rated R: Republicans in Hollywood, a new documentary which premiers tonight on AMC, proves otherwise. Directed and narrated by one time Hill staffer and Democratic speech writer Jesse Moss, the documentary explores the conservative side of Tinseltown, and yes, there actually is one.

In the olden Clinton administration days, Charleton Heston alone had to tow that fine line between conservative politics and entertainment, but he can share that burden now with Gov. Schwarzenegger, Mel Gibson, Patricia Heaton and a Baldwin brother, just to name a few. (DCist can’t exactly remember which Baldwin found God … our recall of celebrity trivia isn’t as keen as it used to be.)

The most surprising talking head to pop up in the film, though, has to be Vincent Gallo, the “experimental” film maker currently in a sea of controversy over his new project, The Brown Bunny. How this explicitly sexual movie reflects his new found Republican values remains a mystery for someone else to solve.

(Here in D.C. the Brown Bunny recently opened at Visions, an event sarcastically anticipated by local blog DCeiver, who begrudgingly admitted “it might actually be decent” after he heard the film had been re-edited.)

Rated R: Republicans in Hollywood airs tonight at 10 p.m. on AMC.
