Sundown tonight marks the beginning of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. DCist joins our parent site Gothamist in wishing a wonderful New Year to all of our Jewish friends and readers. For those who aren’t quite up-to-speed with their Rosh Hashanah knowledge, take a peek at chabad.org’s “Rosh Hashanah To Do List,” which outlines the basic traditions observed during this anuual celebration of renewal.

And since DCist likes to bring food into most cultural discussions, apples dipped in honey (for a sweet year), challah and pomegranate are part of the food traditions that mark this holiday. We are drooling at the thought of it all.
