Martha Begins Prison Sentence: According to a Justice Department press release forwarded to DCist, Martha Stewart arrived at the federal prison at Alderson, W.Va., at 6:15 a.m.

Stewart was sentenced in the Southern District of New York to a term of 5 months imprisonment for Obstruction of Justice, False Statements; and for Conspiracy to Obstruct Justice, make False Statements, and Commit Perjury. Additionally, she was sentenced to a two-year term of supervised release, five months of which will be served in home confinement.

Electric News: WMATA’s board has approved a plan to upgrade its electrical substations so enough power can be provided to allow eight-car trains in its rail system, the Post reports. In other news, the Pay Day lady who garnered national headlines for being handcuffed for eating a candy bar in the metrorail system is in court, saying she “wanted something to be done with the way Metro police officers have conducted themselves. I want Metro to do better.”
