Even though there was plenty of stuff on TV last night, DCist left the couch behind in order to catch the uber-sexy Polly Jean Harvey at the 9:30 Club as she brought her Uh Huh Her tour to D.C. The early show time didn’t keep fans away as the club was filled to capacity shortly before she took the stage at 7:15 p.m. Dressed in black ankle boots and a smallish yellow dress that looked homemade, Harvey ran through a collection of songs that spanned her entire career, including DCist faves “A Perfect Day Elise,” “I Think I’m a Mother” and “Long Snake Moan.”
The show was a little more laidback from the previous times we had seen her live, probably due to the early showtime and the myriad of technical difficulties she and the band had to fight through. Harvey broke a guitar string on the third song of the set and appeared to have problems all night with her vocal monitor. This kept her from really attacking the high notes in some of the songs, but instead she seemed content on keeping the show on an even keel. She spent most of the night shimmying back and forth on stage and being the prototypical female rock star. Girls want to be her and guys want to sleep with her.
