DCist wandered into Common Grounds in Arlington yesterday only to discover it will be our last lazy afternoon spent lounging in the garage-sale chic coffee house in its current incarnation. At 7 a.m. on Wednesday morning, the five-year old Arlington establishment will be reborn as murky coffee arlington, sibling to the coffee house of the same name in Eastern Market.
The website and literature in Common Grounds claims that murky coffee owners will be taking the best of Common Grounds and making it even better, with changes gradually phased in over the first few months. The free WiFi will still be available and it sounds as if the conversation spaces and tables will be rearranged and perhaps even more plentiful. It remains to be seen if murky coffee arlington will retain the friendly, community-minded appeal that makes Common Grounds so comfortable. DCist has resolved to look positively on this new opportunity to make the coffee house even better, especially since we see cafe au lait is still on the menu, if not PB&J on crusty french bread.
So, if you are hankering for your last half-priced sandwich (Monday night special), or your last nostalgic coffee klatch at “The Grounds,” get there tonight, because as of 3 p.m. tomorrow the doors will close and Common Grounds will become the new “murky coffee arlington” (e.e. cummings stylings and all).
