DCist writers and correspondents reported heavy turnout at polling places across the region. Long lines could be seen at virtually every polling place, but despite the long waits voting seemed to be going smoothly.

Correspondents in Northeast and Arlington reported waiting 1-2 hours to vote, and spotted at least one broken electronic voting machine.

The Post has a variety of local elections videos and news in their Metro section.

From a near Northeast neighborhood:

Lines in NE were crazy. I got to the polls at 7:30 and voted at 8:30–but that was because I didn’t have an N-S last name. The line for N-S was out the door. My roommate, an S, got to the polls at 6:30 and only voted about 10 minutes before I did. As of 8:30 I was the 404th person to vote in my polling place. The crowd was mostly black, with a significant number of young people–five or six sightings of “Vote or Die” t-shirts! Say what you will about that campaign–it’s working. Also, one of the neighborhood crackheads voted. I don’t know who carries the crackhead vote, but it was interesting to see him up and about.
