Once again DCist is happy to bring you the football coverage of Jason Linkins aka The DCeiver.
In the annals of sport, the great teams are often supported by the great on-field partnerships. Tinker to Evers to Chance. Montana and Clark. Stockton to Malone. Connected only through the bond of sport, these collaborators brought glory to their teams even as they ascribed their own legend. Well, prepare to add another set of names to the starry firmament of sport: Tupa and Thrash. For one afternoon at Ford Field, Tupa and Thrash pleased their master Gibbs with a balletic display of punting and punt coverage as they worked, like angels connected by an unseen string, to pin the Lions inside their own three.
From there, the Redskins defense kept the Lions in check. While Harrington and the passing game had their moments yesterday—including a sweet one-handed snare by Roy Williams that’s probably all over the highlight reels by now—the Redskins quickly and easily shut down the Lions running game. Lions RB’s were held to 50 yards on 21 carries, which is, historically speaking, a pretty typical statistical line for the Lions ground game when they play us. Artose Pinner can brag about doing no worse than Barry Sanders did!
