“These Things Happen,” a new video by artist Brandon Morse will premiere tonight at Strand on Volta in Georgetown this evening. The show will include an exhibition of Morse’s new work (an example pictured at right) along with an essay by Cathryn Keller.
From Morse’s artist statement:
Much of my work revolves around environmental processes: the depiction of weather is of particular interest. At its base, my attraction to weather phenomena is simply an interest in the sheer volume of action and reaction taking place simultaneously and constantly. While not a mathematician, I have a fascination with the equations involved in the forces at work which create phenomena such as tornadoes, pressure fronts, and precipitation.
Morse uses basic algorithms to create “extremely low-resolution versions of these processes.”
If you can’t attend the opening reception tonight, Morse will be giving an artist’s talk about his work at Strand on Volta on Dec. 5. His work will be on display through Dec. 19.
