DCist wandered into a police barricade this morning at 15th and K streets NW.

According to the security guard for our building at the perimeter, there is a robbery in progress at Rite Aid at the corner of 15th and L streets and a gunman on the scene. We’ve heard that there may be a hostage situation, but details are sketchy.

Both automobile and foot traffic is a mess, and man is that detour to the office bitingly cold.

More to come. And does this strike you as odd that gunmen have the guts to pull this off just a few blocks from the White House?

UPDATE: 10:15 a.m. — It appears the Post, which has offices at 15th and L streets, has a little more news, confirming that a number of Rite Aid employees are inside.

With K and L streets closed, crosstown corridors north and south of the scene are clogged with traffic. So watch out on H, I and M streets, as well as Massachusetts Avenue. 14th, 15th, 16th streets certainly should be avoided.
