DCFüd points us to rumors on eGullet that Red Bean, the postage-stamp sized eatery in Mt. Pleasant that DCist has been known to enjoy will be closing after tonight. After the trials and tribulations chronicled in the Post, DCist isn’t exactly surprised. Assuming all the rumors are true, we’re surprised the restaurant, which featured great Cajun/Tex-Mex cuisine at low prices, has lasted this long. Neighbor Tonic has bar clientele supplementing its restaurant income, while The Raven has the benefit of being a local institution. Red Bean had none of that — striving to survive as a new 30-seat restaurant in a neighborhood away from the bustle of downtown. DCist suspects that were it not for the Post articles, Red Bean would have come and gone in the blink of an eye. We wish Frank and his cousin Mike good luck in their future adventures.
