One of our more favorite nicknames for D.C. that we’ve heard over the years is Capital of Potholes. In the normal course of the freeze and thaw cycle, roads can take a beating. And the District wants you to tell them where they are. (And they say they’ll fill them within three days.)

Indicate the pothole location (i.e. address, intersection) and describe the severity of the pothole problem (i.e. depth, width, number of potholes in one location). A service request will be put into the Hansen tracking system, and the resident will receive a service request number.

Now if you do go report a pothole, be mindful of the jurisdiction of the roadway in question. We would assume that getting D.C. to repair a road controlled by the Parks Service, e.g. Rock Creek Parkway, Waterside Drive or the Cathedral Avenue approach to RCP, would involve jumping through a lot of bureaucratic hoops.

We would have to say there are some doozies at Ward Circle and along Broad Branch Road, the Anacostia Freeway and 29th Street NW near the Swiss Embassy. We know there are plenty of pox-marked roadways around town. Where do you think the worst are?
