The Post’s Hank Stuever weighed in today on a major event in the world of comics. Last Saturday, Cathy, from the comic strip of the same name, the perennially single gal, got married to long time on again off again boyfriend Irving. For those of you that don’t read the comics, Cathy’s kind of like the Bridget Jones of the comics world, only less funnier and, let’s face it, Irving is no Mark Darcy.

The shoe jokes, the gosh-am-i-fat-jokes, the neurotic jokes etc. that the strip was built on made it cringe inducing bad a long time ago. Now, since Cathy is happily married, and considering that the strip hasn’t been funny for some time now, DCist sends out a special plea that someone at the Post will come to their senses and yank it from the comics page. We know we don’t have to read it, but it’s always there, and like Stuever said, old habits die hard. Also, regular readers of Post columnist Gene Weingarten’s online chat are undoubtedly familiar with his absolute hatred of all things “Cathy” related, and yesterday’s chat was no exception.
